The Art of Bar Cart Styling

I’m on a HUGE bar cart kick lately. If it was acceptable to have one in every room, I would. Bar carts are just such a great way to add a little extra glamour to your entertaining space. The decor piece has become a trendy item in the design world because of its functionality and chic vintage flare. It’s a classic furniture piece that immediately ties your space together. A well-styled and stocked bar cart will keep any party rolling.
Since I have a Pinterest Board dedicated purely to the art of bar cart styling, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite tips and bar carts!

Step 1. The Basics

If you are a beginner bar cart stylist, I would avoid purchasing flavored liquors. Different flavors will limit the types of drinks that you are able to prepare for your guests. Stick with the classics: whiskey, vodka, tequila, gin or rum. I would also HIGHLY recommend including some bubbly – you know, for variety!  If you are hesitant about which types of liquor to purchase, ask your guests if they have a preference. This is also a great way to be prepared with special mixers like cranberry juice, ginger beer or sparkling water. Incorporate some accent garnishes like mint leaves, lemons and limes. Or go by my number one rule: the prettier the bottle, the better.

Step 2. Personalize It

Incorporating a signature cocktail is ideal if you are hosting a themed party. I always think it is important to include nonalcoholic options so there is a refreshment for everyone. I like to keep assorted LaCroix or San Pellegrino flavors stocked on the lower level of my cart. Some adorable framed quotes are always a go-to as well.

Step 3. Garnish

A bar cart is simply not complete without chic coasters, napkins, an ice bucket, cocktail tools and chic glassware. Personalizing these items is an easy way to showcase your personal style. Incorporating trinkets can customize your cart as well. Another way to accessorize is by adding your favorite cocktail recipe book. To tie the space together find a painted canvas or art print to hang above your bar cart.

Step 4. Style

Incorporating pops of gold into your cart instantly channels old hollywood glamour. I would recommend gold accessories for a more elegant look. Now I’m all about the glitz and glam, but if you are looking for a more simple yet rustic feel, add some natural elements like a potted plant, fresh flowers or greenery. Plus flowers just make everything a little better.
