The 2016 Cannes Film Festival was earlier this month, but I am STILL dreaming of the unbelievably stunning Red Carpet looks. Every year as the glitterati descends on the south of France, the star-studded event transforms the already glamorous French Riviera into a stellar fashion show.
From metallic sequins and slinky silhouettes, to subtle ruffles and enchanting embellishments, this year’s Cannes couture was all about the trends – and they did not disappoint. Here are my top three designs from these Cannes 2016 fashion trends:
Nearly Nude
The Nearly-Naked dress trend is back and it dazzled the 69th Cannes Red Carpet with intricate beading, dramatic cutouts, and flesh-colored fabric. These celebrity starlettes really bared it all!
Flirty Florals
Pastel gowns with charming florals were blooming beachside in the French Riviera this month. Whether ditsy or bold, the floral pattern is a hot spring trend. Elle Fanning’s strapless Zuhair Murad corset gown was an old Hollywood take on the floral trend, whereas Naomi Watts’ Armani organza-tiered dress veered towards contemporary with abstract floral embellishments.
Strapless Staple
While trends come and go, the classic strapless black dress will never go out of style. These three celebrities wowed Cannes goers as they proved just how sexy bare décolletage and toned arms can be. Supermodels, Karlie Kloss and Toni Garrn accentuated their perfect curves in black thigh-revealing Marchesa and Ulyana Surgeenko gowns. But timeless beauty, Julia Roberts took the cake in her old Hollywood Armani gown with an enormous pear-shaped emerald Chopard necklace.
Romantic Minis
Eye-catching and ornate, the ultra-romantic aesthetic that has taken over the runway made quite the appearance in the south of France. We’ve already seen delicate lace, feminine silhouettes, floral-frills, and charming ruffles on the Cannes Red Carpet, but these details in mini-dress form is to die for. From Eva Herzigova’s flirty Dior complete with a pale pink silk cape, to Kendall Jenner’s over-the-top Ellie Saab lace number with ostrich-feather details – these starlettes reminded us that romance isn’t dead.
Timeless Elegance
There’s something about an evening gown with a long statement train that is just utterly glamourous. This look has made the Red Carpet hundreds of times, but it somehow never gets tired. It is sheer elegance.
My Favorite Look
No explanation necessary. Actress Blake Lively is simply exquisite in this Cinderella meets modern-day Vivienne Westwood ball gown. The ruffle-tiered skirt, the ditsy floral embellishments, and the perfectly-tied silk bow – this Red Carpet look is straight out of a fairytale.
