Vanity Diaries: The Korean Cat Eye

Our daily makeup routine is largely defined by our specific skincare needs + concerns. And I am always testing out new products and makeup tips to accentuate my eyes! Seeing that I am of Korean descent, I think my fellow Asian eye sisters can agree that this can be tricky.
But our heritage is something to be very proud of. So rather than take extreme measure, I’ve learned that there’s nothing a little makeup can’t do to enhance our natural beauty.
As the old saying goes, “practice makes perfect,” and by George I think I’ve finally got it! After many years of makeup tutorials, I have come up with the perfect combo to enhance my eyes. And I decided to compile these tips and secrets to share with you! The amazing part? These tips aren’t just for Korean eyes – they work great for any eye shape!
Without further adieu, I present my Vanity Diaries: The Korean Cat Eye.

1. Eyeshadow

Once I have completed the base of my face makeup, it’s time to move on to the eyes. I always like to start off with eyeshadow. This way I won’t have to go back over the eyeliner if a little eye shadow shimmer dulls the line. For a daytime look, I prefer to use more of the neutral/bronze tones for just the faintest metallic shimmer. My favorite of the moment is the NARS Duel-Intensity Eyeshadow in Dione. It’s soft, but adds the perfect amount of champagne pop.

2. Bottom Eyeliner

Before jumping into the hard part, I first fill in my bottom eyeliner. For this, I keep it pretty light – I only fill in the waterline along the line of my lower lashes with a creamy + smooth pencil liner. I suggest staying away from a hard pencil liner!

3. Top Eyeliner

Ok let’s get to the good stuff. The Korean Cat Eye is all about being simple yet, sophisticated. For the top eyeliner, I like to trace a relatively thick line along the lashes of my top lid with Almay Liquid Liner in Precise Black. But depending on how narrow your eyelids are, you can go as thick or thin as you like.
Now for the cat-eye. With the same liquid liner, follow the curve of the lower lash line upwards. Once the wing is at a length you like, draw a line from the tip of the wing to the corner of your top lashes. Then go ahead and fill in!
I always like to start my top eyeliner thin, that way I can go back and trace over it later!

4. Eyelashes

If you have long eyelashes – I am ridiculously jealous of you. But since I do not, I am extremely thankful to whoever created falsies. I usually only wear fake eyelashes if I have an event or a night out, but sometimes I like to wear them during the day too.

5. Eyebrows

Unless you’ve been hiding in a hole for the last year, you’ll understand how important a bold eyebrow is for your face. And since I have thinner brows, I rely on my good friend Anastasia for a little help. While the cosmetic brand has a variety of different enhancing products for your brows, I am a big fan of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in Brunette/Dark Brown.
Once my cat-eye is done and my brows are on fleek, I like to top off my look with Laura Geller Easy Illuminating Stick for a dewy glow!
